INRODUCTION
Badur Sports Club a leading youth front of Weligama during 1970s and 1980s was promoting sports and traditional cultural arts at Weligama. In 1989 it was restructured and named as Badur United Front. From then it started to pay a lot of attention on social and Islamic educational activities rather than on sports. It had four major departments for technical, educational, social and sports fields. Technical department was conducting sewing and typing classes while the sports department was organizing regional sports festivals and classes on martial arts. Both departments had to hold up their activities after few years as they faced practical problems due to unavailability of a permanent place. Social department was rendering its services by organizing of clean up camps at public places and various more. In 1990 when the Muslims at Mannar an eastern city of the country, were made refugees due the ethnic violence the front was able to collect and distribute some twenty lorries of relief items. During flood relief campaign of the neighbor city in 2003 and Tsunami relief operation in 2004 the front had active involvement. The Islamic educational department was conducting a nursery school and a Sunday religious school ( Ahadiyya School ). The nursery school had the same fate like the sport and technical departments after a long run of more than a decades at various places. The Sunday Ahadiyya school the major institute of the front is celebrating its twentieth anniversary next year. The Ahadiyya from the start it is conducting its classes at Arafa Central College primary division (then Arafa Junior School ). Around five hundred students are studying there from grade 01 to 11 in Sinhala, English and Tamil languages. It also has a administration unit with two computers and two staff and a library of more than three hundred collections with a librarian. Mainly Islamic Shareea, Islamic history and Qur'an and Hadees arts are taught there. Apart from the classes an annual trip and a quarterly Tharbiyya programme are arranged for students. Students are provided with a book of Muhasaba designed to watch, evaluate and advice on day to day practices. Time to time classes on secular subjects also arranged when needed and possible. The staff is rendering their services absolutely on voluntary basis. Badur united front had various shape ups during its two decades long run and finally in 2002 it took the shape of Badur Islamic association. The association is now lounging a project to extend its activities in the name of CICS ( center for Islamic culture and studies). It hopes it can serve more to the community once this project becomes a success.
